This is the style of knife Teddy Roosevelt carried when he was in the Rough Riders. I forged this Bowie from a roller bearing, making the steel 52100. It has a brass guard and coffin frame handle of brass and micarta. The blade is a little over 8", and the overall length is 13". This is the first coffin frame I've ever done, and I really like it.
With every single hunting or EDC knife I make, I test the tip. I have a chunk of maple I stab the blade into and then rock it back and forth. If the tip snaps, it gets tossed off to the side. This knife survived. I do this because I believe every hunting knife, even little guys like this one, should be able to pop the pelvic on a deer without having to worry about looking this tip.
You'll field dress dress, clean, and quarter four deer before you start thinking about bringing out the whet stone.
*The cutting edge is sharpened at a 25°.
**This knife comes with a hand tooled 7-8oz leather sheath.
