This is a double-twist 125 layer twisted Damascus. The blade is a little over 4.75", and the ebony handle and brass guard gives an overall length of 9.5". The spine is a little under 3/16" thick. I used 1095 and 15n20 for the Damascus.
To do the double-twist, I first took a bar of 125 layer Damascus and twisted the hell out of it. Then, I flattened, cut, and restacked. On the restack, I put some thick chunks of 1095 between the Damascus layers. With that done, I forge welded it, drew it out into a round bar, and twisted it again. The already twisted Damascus adds a bit of chaos to the pattern.
With every single hunting or EDC knife I make, I test the tip. I have a chunk of maple I stab the blade into and then rock it back and forth. If the tip snaps, it gets tossed off to the side. This knife survived. I do this because I believe every hunting knife, even little guys like this one, should be able to pop the pelvic on a deer without having to worry about looking this tip.
You'll do four deer before you start thinking about bringing out the whet stone.
*The cutting edge is sharpened at a 25°.
**This knife comes with a hand tooled 7-8oz leather sheath.
