Forged from a 1973 Chevy Caprice leaf spring, this beast feels fantastic in the hand. It just makes you spine when you pick it up.
With a 10.5" blade, and a little over 15.5" overall, this Alamo Bowie is actually a little smaller than what was historically carried.
Known both as a Musso Bowie and an Alamo Bowie--depends on who you're talking to--, the ones carried by Jim Bowie, Davy Crockett, Danielle Boone, and the others of that era were typically around a 12"-14" blade. Basically, they were a short sword. They were damn near the length of sword the Roman soldiers used 2000 yrs earlier to conquer 3/4 of the known world.
Along the spine of the spine, there is a copper ribbon. The originals also used brass and silver. The softer metal along the spine was for protection during a knife fight. The soft metal protected the spine from damage when deflecting or catching another blade.
With every single hunting or EDC knife I make, I test the tip. I have a chunk of maple I stab the blade into and then rock it back and forth. If the tip snaps, it gets tossed off to the side. This knife survived.
*The cutting edge is sharpened at a 30°.
**This knife comes with a 7-8oz leather sheath.
